Information

Isla Mujeres means “the island of women” and on its origin, it was a Mayan sanctuary for goddess Ixchel, goddess of the moon, fertility, medicine and happiness. On 1517 when Francisco Fernández de Córdoba discovered the place, he could only find the idols of Ixchel and her court of women, so he gave the name to this place.. or so that says the legend! Another name legend affirms that due to Isla’s strategic location, it was taken by the pirates and that they used to keep their women at this place while they went out plundering. Nowadays, you can easily get to Isla Mujeres using a ferry service that departs from different points in Cancun, in a 25 minutes ride. The most common place to take a ferry is Puerto Juarez. People that live in Isla call themselves “isleños” and they take pride on the story of this place, where time passes slowly, beaches are calm and paradisiac and people has always a warm smile to share. The most common mean of transportation is golf carts and the island can be fully visited in about 1-2 hr, so even if you are not staying here, a day visit is completely worth the trip. Our Isla Mujeres transfers will take you to Ultramar Puerto Juarez ferry dock, where you can take the ferry to the Island; departures are available every 15 minutes and there is always plenty of space, so you can get there and buy your ferry ticket directly. When in there, don’t forget to try the tikin xic fish. It’s only available some time of the year and it is something you will not try anywhere else.
